September 07, 2026

WhatsApp lead capture for GoHighLevel brings new one-to-one WhatsApp inquiries into your client's CRM. With WhatsLevel's Lead Capture enabled, an incoming message from an unmapped sender can create a contact with their phone number and available WhatsApp display name, then appear in GHL Conversations.

Turn an incoming inquiry into a contact

A prospect messages your client's WhatsApp number before filling out a form. Your team needs that conversation in GHL, with a contact they can find and follow up with. Lead Capture handles the contact creation step when the sender is not yet linked to a GHL contact.

The new record uses the sender's phone number and display name when available. WhatsLevel adds a lead capture tag and records the source as WhatsApp - WhatsLevel. A WhatsApp display name is supplied by the sender; it is not a verified identity or an enriched company profile.

Connect the number and enable Lead Capture

  1. Connect WhatsLevel to the intended GHL subaccount.
  2. Connect the WhatsApp number that receives your client's inquiries.
  3. Enable Lead Capture for that connection.
  4. Send a test message from a separate number, then check the contact and conversation inside GHL.

Use a test sender that has not already been mapped. If Lead Capture is off, messages from unmapped senders are ignored by this integration. Checking the setting is part of setup, before your team relies on it for new inquiries.

Keep the scope clear before importing anything

This feature captures incoming individual conversations. It does not import your phone's entire address book, group members or all historical chats. Email addresses and company details are not added unless your team or another configured process supplies them.

If GHL identifies a duplicate and returns an existing contact ID, WhatsLevel can reuse that contact. Test with your subaccount's duplicate-contact settings before rolling the connection out to a client.

Build your follow-up around the conversation

Start with an agency handling inbound sales inquiries for a client: a prospect sends a question, the contact is created, and a team member responds from GHL. This is an example workflow, not a reported customer result. Define your own assignment and follow-up process in GHL after checking the incoming record.

Track new captured contacts and whether the team replies. That gives you a practical way to assess the connection using your own inquiries, instead of assuming every captured contact is a qualified lead. For the broader connection steps, see our WhatsApp and GoHighLevel setup guide.

Put the guide into practice.
